Take on the High Seas with a New Diver’s Watch

The idea of making this pricey piece of haute horology came from Laurence Graff, the Chairman of Graff Diamonds. After all, no one else on the lower rungs of the company ladder could even conceive of a fifty-five million dollar timepiece without a raised eyebrow or two.

Countdown to Father’s Day

BEST FROM: aBlogtoWatch & Friends June 6, 2014 ABTW Round-Ups

While it is not obvious at first, Kun-Chi Wu, who designed the Grand Cru, was inspired by wine. The design and theme of the timepiece are all about it. "Grand Cru" is actually "great growth" in French and is also a regional wine classification- so that is where the watch name comes from. The shape of the case when looking at it from the side is inspired by wine glasses, and the seconds hand is inspired by the look of a corkscrew. Having said that, the most interesting design feature of the Grand Cru is something entirely different.

Everest Leather Straps For Rolex Watches Preview Hands-On

Earlier this year, we brought you word of a new model from Linde Werdelin, the Oktopus II Moon.  Today, we've got word of a new version of that rather interesting watch, and it's quite a fun twist, one that I'm partial to and that being engraving.  Don't get me wrong - the luminous, hand-drawn moon phases are a very fun addition. But, when I see artistic engraving taking place on a watch case however, that's what I'm drawn to, given its relative rarity.

This is something that I cannot help but to be in awe of. The level of skill and effort involved in creating pieces like these, I can't even begin to fathom. When you throw in the "miniaturization" involved in getting the work packaged in a wristwatch, you've just turned the dial all the way to 11.

The titanium case is cut very well, and I like the matte brushed finishing a lot. Other than being in titanium, the bracelet is more or less identical to that classic Speedmaster bracelet that people love. The case of the X-33 Skywalkers has a range of interesting design elements but is a Speedmaster at heart. In fact, in many ways, it is very similar to the last generation X-33. Omega simply didn't want to make too many changes in order to preserve the interest from aviation professionals and collectors.

The New and Vintage Omega Speedmaster Mark II Replica

If you've followed the Chopard Grand Prix de Monaco Historique collection for a few years now, then these more-or-less fall in line with the aesthetics you've come to expect, and perhaps love. Having said that, upon closer inspection you'll see that these are totally new cases and dials. The cases are a bit larger than the last time around, but they still wear very comfortably thanks to the short, highly curved lugs. At 44.5mm wide, the cases are all in titanium (versus steel) and finished with brushed, polished, and sandblasted surfaces. Further, the cases are 13.9mm thick. The lightness of titanium helps them be much more wearable, and the quality of the finishing is very impressive for titanium–which can be hard to polish properly. So, while these are larger timepieces, they are meant to be a bold show on the wrist but they are nevertheless highly enjoyable to wear.

Thank You Mr. Urquhart!

Why? Well that is really the question, isn't it. Artya is a brand that likes to exaggerate life and that is part of their charm. For Yvan, this watch is about personal safety, as well as covertly opening private letters with clean precision. The knife will fold out from the buckle "pocket-knife" style and will be perhaps an inch or so in length. It isn't exactly "hidden" if you look closely at the buckle, but is rather out of the way and located in a place most people would not expect. Artya has some suggested uses for this small blade, but what I am more curious about is what you all feel it might be good for when in a pinch.

I really feel I became a constructor in chronometric mechanisms at the age of 25, when I finished my first (all handmade) pocket watch with tourbillon and remontoir. It took me five years to complete it during my spare time and weekends. You don't learn this in watchmaking school... When it was finished, I spent 24 hours straight gazing at it when it first started ticking!

JLC has set a standard for heritage-inspired timepieces; not by simply copying their historical models, but by modernizing them intelligently and creatively while staying true to the original concept. Pieces such as the Tribute to Polaris, Deep Sea Alarm, and 1931 Reverso are simply masterworks of modern design, and have without question become modern classics in their own right. The fact that each of these pieces would look right at home in a watch box full of timepieces from the mid 20th Century isn’t the only plus. Jaeger-LeCoultre has gone to great lengths to ensure that their modern heritage collections are practical reflections of current wristwatch design and manufacture, utilizing high-end materials and movements, without over-complicating the final product. In other words, they are the perfect combination of practical, svelte design and modern technology–at least that is one man's opinion.

Very First Omega Speedmaster CK2915 from 1957

A movement like this will need some space to stretch its legs, and the TEC1 sports a meaty 45mm 18-carat red gold or palladium case with an anti-reflective sapphire crystal and a sapphire display case back. The dial layout may be my favorite part about this new A&S chronograph, with a strong sense of balance and legibility that at first glance actually hides evidence of the chronograph (aside from the pushers adorning the right flank of the case). Dial text is minimal and the chronograph seconds measure is aided by a simple seconds scale surrounding the dial. The TEC1 offers a chronograph in the format of a fine dress watch that is bolstered by the presence of a tourbillon, which seems like a solid recipe for horological success.

So, given all this methodology, just how well does this "magical dial" perform in real life? After all, its primary function is to make for a 2-in-1 watch, allowing the wearer to choose between a slightly more restrained, albeit still very modern looking sports chronograph with a deep black dial, or a blast of high-tech, borderline futuristic exposure of fine watch making. And while we see this two-in-one concept fail miserably in about 95% of the time at every field of life, I was surprised to see that Revelation actually got it right this time... it works!

As a whole more satisfied with Omega Deville Replica

Rolex labs are as diverse as they are amazing. Perhaps the most visually interesting is the chemistry lab. Full of beakers and tubes that carry liquids and gases, the Rolex chemistry lab is full of highly trained scientists. What is it mostly used for? Well one thing that Rolex stated is that the lab is used for developing and researching oils and lubricants that they use in machines during the manufacturing process.

This particular 1681 Small Second model contains the caliber JR1090, which is the version of the JR100- with the subsidiary seconds dial at 9 o'clock. The movement is an automatic, and has a power reserve of 48 hours operating at 4Hz. On the dial you also have a date indicator window. Of course my favorite part of the face is the properly sized blued-steel leaf-style hands (that have SuperLumiNova applied inside). The dial is laquered white with crisp minute markers and applied gold hour markers.

Dark gray elegant IWC Replica watches Tasting

Here is how it works. The complication's display is comprised of a daisy display in the center of the dial, as well as two windows underneath with the terms in French. Pressing the upper pusher causes one of the petals to slide under the dial and thus off the flower, and randomly selects a phrase to be displayed in the windows based on spinning discs below. Of course a chime sounds (due to the inclusion of a hammer and gong) each time the pusher is pressed. This is done until all the petals are gone and the last one reveals how he feels about you. The lower pusher resets the scene.

The Omega Speedmaster That Went To The Moon

It is possible that ETA was able to insert a larger mainspring as well, but the 80 hours of power reserve seems to mostly be a function of reducing the frequency of the 2824 from 4 Hz (28,800 bph) to 3 Hz, (21,600 bph) in the CO7.111. What does this mean? Well when a movement operates at a slower frequency there are less beats per a second, and thus are deviations in accuracy will be more pronounced. That means errors in timing will be more visible and while the watch will have a longer power reserve, if not regulated properly, it might not be as accurate over time.
